License
The modeler of BOUML (bouml versus bouml.exe) need a valid license file to run (see legal mentions).
I don't deliver free temporary license, if you want to try BOUML out of charge please use the viewer.
The licenses are not associated to a list of users. The licenses are independent of the versions of BOUML, this means you can change your release of BOUML at any time without having to pay nor to ask for a new license file.
Single seat licenses
The single seat licenses are associated to the hosts, and they may be valid for a limited number of years. The license files are multi-hosts, you don't need to manage an own license file for each host, under the condition the licence duration is the same for all. You cannot share a license between Windows and Linux, this means if you have a dual boot on your host and you expect to use BOUML under Windows and Under Linux you have to get a license for two hosts (but you pay only one). A priori an upgrade of Windows to an other version (for instance from Windows XP to Windows Seven) on a host will invalidate the license for this host. A license under Linux should probably remained valid if you change the version of Linux (for instance from Debian Lenny to Debian Squeeze) and probably also if you change the distribution (for instance from Mandriva to Ubuntu). A change concerning the hardware of a host may invalidate the license for this host, except a classical modification like to add disk(s) or to expand the memory for instance.
Floating licences
The floating licenses may be valid for a limited number of years. The licence file must be placed on the host supporting the token server, and each host where you potentially expect to use BOUML. For the host supporting the token server the license is similar to a single seat license and follow the constraints detailled above. The token server and the hosts where BOUML is used must be on the same network, refer to licServer for additional information.

When you renew a license the price is unchanged, for example today you buy 50 € a single seat license for 1 host during 1 year, one year later the renewal for 1 host (may be not the same host) during 1 year will also be 50 €. However the second time you will renew a license still paying 50 € you will obtain a license without limit in time like if you had initially purchased a single seat license for 1 host without limit in time at 150 €.
When you buy a license for additional host(s) the price reflects what you have already paid. For example, today you buy 50 € a single seat license for 1 host during 1 year, if later you buy again a single seat licence for 1 host during 1 year (not being a renewal) its price will be 40 € as if you had initially purchased a single seat license for 2 hosts during 1 year at 90 €.
Personal use
- The price for 1 host during 1 year is 30 €.
- The price for 2 hosts (or only 1) without limit in time is 50 €
Teaching
If you are a teacher and you expect licenses for training, the price is very reduced. If you get a license for at least ten hosts the price for each host is the price for a host in professional use divided by then (seat 1 year : 5 €, seat no limit : 15 €, floating 1 year 7 €, floating no limit : 21 €). If you get a license for less than ten hosts the total price is the price of one host in professional use (seat 1 year : 50 €, seat no limit : 150 €, floating 1 year : 70 €, floating no limit : 210 €). Purchase a license
Obtaining a license in done in several steps :
- Download then instal BOUML on the hosts you want to use it.
- In the case of single seat licenses, on each host launch the modeler of BOUML (bouml versus bouml.exe), a file dialog box named licence request file creation will appear to save a text file auto generated associated to the current host, and only to the host (no data associated to users). Choose the pathname of the file then confirm, on success the message generation done successfuly will appear. The execution stops when the save is confirmed or cancelled.
- In the case of floating licenses, on the host where the token server will run launch this server (licServer) or the modeler of BOUML (bouml versus bouml.exe), a file dialog box named licence request file creation will appear to save a text file auto generated associated to the current host, and only to the host (no data associated to users). Choose the pathname of the file then confirm, on success the message generation done successfuly will appear. The execution stops when the save is confirmed or cancelled.
- Use the form below to send me the contain of each generated file and other information. If there are too many hosts you can send me by mail at contact@bouml.fr an archives containing the generated files, dont forget to give also your identity and the duration of the license etc. Your identity allows me to do the link between the request and the payment. After that these files are useless and you can remove them.
- I will answer by mail to confirm the validity of the informations sent by you and to give you the price of your license (check your spam folder in case of).
- For a professional/teaching use contact me at contact@bouml.fr it you want to pay by electronic bank transfer or through a check. Else in all the cases you can pay via paypal, for that you don't need to open a paypal account if you don't already have one, you can pay through your master card, visa, american express etc (use one of the payment button in the bottom of the page to see the possibilities).
- You will receive by mail the licence file (licence.txt), put it on each host in the install directory of BOUML, this means where the executables of BOUML are (warning : /usr/lib/bouml under Linux, not /usr/bin). Of course backup the license file to not loose it for instance if you uninstall your current version of BOUML.
Do not change the contain of the license preparation file you send to me, nor the license file itself (licence.txt). The license file is a text file, is header contains the end date of the license.
Extend the duration of an existing license
If you want to renew your license for all the hosts it manages , send me your license file by mail at contact@bouml.fr indicating the duration of the extend. Of course you will not loose days, for instance if you ask for an extend of 1 year while your license ends in 23 days, the new license will ends in 1 year more 23 days.
If you don't want to extend the license for all the hosts it manages, send me by mail at contact@bouml.fr your license file more the license preparations files for each host the license must be extended, indicating the duration of the extend. To produce the license preparation file for a host just rename its file licence.txt. Of course you will not loose days, for instance if you ask for an extend of 1 year while your license ends in 23 days, the new license will ends in 1 year more 23 days. Warning the new license file will not manage the hosts for whose the license is not extended, for them you have to continue to use the current license file.
