How to change the numbering of messages

In a communication diagram I tried to number messages in a logical way, but as soon I added the one labeled 1 (see the screenshot)

the first four messages have they number changed ( for 1 2 3 4 to 3 5 6 4) and was not able to change the number (rank) as I need. The message dialog continues to say: invalid hierarchical rank.
Could you help me?

I do not understand you, the (global) rank follows the hierarchical rank, so if you change a hierarchical rank of a message to 1 by definition it will have the (global) rank 1 too and some messages have their (global) rank updated to follow their new hierarchical rank

If this is not that but may be a bug can you save-as your model in a new one to delete all unnecessary definitions or definitions you do not share with me, and send me by mail at contact@bouml.fr an archive of all the files on that (new) project and explain me what you try to do ?

Nevermind, solved.
The problem was my misunderstanding of ranks: the hierarchical rank cannot be any number, gaps in numbering are not allowed.
