Ubuntu 20.04

Postby DanielMcInnes » Thu 14 May 2020 06:37

Hi Bruno, hope you are well. Are there any plans to support Ubuntu 20.04? I just upgraded from 19.10 without realising that BOUML wouldn't work.

Thanks for BOUML, I love it.

Regards,

Hi Daniel ,

BoUML is implemented on Qt4 (+ Qt3 extensions) but unfortunately Ubuntu 20.04 is the first release of Ubuntu without Qt4

If it was open source, I could port it to Qt5 for you :)
(I probably wouldn't, but someone else might)

When I said I stop BoUML end of 2011 I discover some guys started a fork, sorry to say but the result was catastrophic, they not only introduced plenty of bugs, but they also removed the non manual plug-outs

Hello Bruno,

What options do we Ubuntu users have then?
Will you port Bouml to Qt5?
Will you stop support of Bouml on Ubuntu?
What about a Bouml statically linked to Qt4 for Ubuntu?

Best regards with the hope of further using Bouml under Ubuntu,

Thank you minahim, that works 8-)

So, to install BoUML I did using the depot I made for Eoan :

Code: Select all
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rock-core/qt4
wget -q https://www.bouml.fr/bouml_key.asc -O- | sudo apt-key add -
echo "deb https://www.bouml.fr/apt/eoan eoan free" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install bouml

csk, DanielMcInnes : is it also working for you ?

Maybe there is a license model which allows users to contribute but still keeps the responsibility/decisions in your hands, e.g. that the distribution of binaries is not allowed.
Bouml is a really nice tool. I prefer it over several commercial tools (using c/c++) as it's flexibility is a real benefit. Beeing able to contribute and/or make small adaptions that simplifies things for a usercase would make it even better.
